Volunteers at the Phiren Amenca volunteer seminar May 2013

Phiren Amenca opened a call for applications for young people to participate in a European Voluntary Service (EU Youth in Action program) project in Budapest. The 12 months lasting project offers diverse learning and service opportunities including national and international seminars. The volunteers engage weekly around 30-35 hours in Phiren Amenca. The project gives an opportunity to the volunteer to live and engage in the local community and projects in Budapest in the time from November 2013 until October 2014.

The volunteer will work together with the diverse staff of our organization. The volunteer will take part in projects addressing non-formal education and activism against racism and antigypsyism; going to contribute to the success of the project with his/her own experiences and ideas and he/she is going to benefit from opportunities of a new life experience, intercultural learning, non-formal education, and new language skills. The project will give the volunteer the opportunity to experiment him/herself in different activities and to find his/her own focus of activity including the realization of his/her own project ideas in a safe space with individual support. As a result the volunteer going to feel encouraged to express and realize his/her own ideas and opinions with more confidence.

The program is fully covered, providing room, board, health insurance, monthly ticket for local transport, language course and monthly pocket money. The volunteer will be provided with EVS seminar during their service and 2 international Phiren Amenca seminars.

The call for applications is open for young people between 18 and 30 years who are residents of EU countries. Basic knowledge of English is expected. For further questions do not hesitate to contact us.

Description of the hosting organization

Logo Colour with RGDTSPhiren Amenca is a network of Roma and non-Roma volunteers and voluntary service organizations creating opportunities for non-formal education, dialogue and engagement, in order to challenge stereotypes and racism. We aim to specifically facilitate the access of young people with fewer opportunities and especially young Roma who had more limited access to benefit from the European Voluntary Service. We bring young Roma and non-Roma volunteers in Roma projects and communities, together through seminars and meetings to create intercultural dialogue and a common engagement for respect and an inclusive society. We strive to promote the value of volunteering and active citizenship, and advocate for the recognition of voluntary service and non-formal education also within policies and strategies targeting Roma communities and social inclusion.
