Cadca (Slovakia), September 25-26, 2013
Roma and non-Roma organizations from Slovakia came together in a 2 day lasting seminar in order to learn about the European Voluntary Service program, and to discuss about inclusion of Roma youth in the Youth in Action program. The Phiren Amenca network participated as well, and was able to share our experiences with voluntary service programs and the inclusion of Roma youth.
“This was the first time that such a number of Roma organizations from Slovakia showed their interest in EVS and the Youth in Action program, and I wanted to discover more about their communities and their engagement.”, said Jonathan Mack who represented Phiren Amenca during the meeting. The meeting helped to analyse the needs and challenges of the organizations to participate in the program, and it established an action plan for future actions, including a second training at the end of the year. This initiative was organized by the experienced Slovak EVS organization KERIC from Cadca in cooperation with the Slovak National Agency Iuventa. Phiren Amenca will follow the process, and offer its support and resources, such as international partner organizations for hosting and sending, networking meetings and trainings for volunteers.
