Fatlum Kryezi comes from Prizren (Kosovo), a city known for its cultural diversity and rich historical background. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Pristina and has been actively involved in civil society initiatives in Kosovo for several years. His work has consistently focused on the promotion of social inclusion and equality.
Fatlum has a particular interest in working with children and young people from marginalized communities, especially within the Roma community. He has supported and facilitated various social, cultural, and musical activities aimed at empowering Roma youth. He believes that creativity and self-expression are essential tools in helping young people build confidence and embrace their identity in a positive and meaningful way.
With a strong commitment to human rights and grassroots advocacy, Fatlum has continuously sought opportunities to broaden his experience and deepen his understanding of inclusive community work. His approach combines a passion for music, intercultural dialogue, and youth engagement with a broader vision of social justice.
He chose to volunteer with RGDTS – Phiren Amenca in Hungary from October 2024 because of their long-standing commitment to Roma inclusion, non-formal education, and youth empowerment. Fatlum see this opportunity as a meaningful way to expand his skills, exchange knowledge, and connect with like-minded individuals and communities in Hungary and across Europe.
Starting out as a young Roma person from Kosovo is not easy. Roma communities often face exclusion, poor access to education, high unemployment, and very limited opportunities to move forward. It’s not about lacking talent or motivatio, the real issue is lack of access. Getting into an international volunteering program is extremely rare in this context, and it takes determination just to overcome the structural barriers. For Fatlum, joining this project is not just a learning opportunity, it is a meaningful step toward breaking out of a cycle that holds back so many young people in his community.
