From November 29 – December 02, 2013 the second Amaro Drom Autumn Academy for young Roma and non-Roma from all over Germany took place in Hamburg. This year, a workshop about voluntary services was organized for the first time. Current volunteers who just started or almost finished their volunteering year participated, as well as formers volunteers, people interested in volunteering and the team of the Amaro Drom volunteers working group.
The meeting gave the volunteers the opportunity to develop strong links with each other by sharing experiences about their placements in several different towns in Germany. They jointly outlined a plan for the year 2014, which will serve as a guideline during the next year’s activities. The volunteers who are already in the last months of their voluntary service had the opportunity to discuss their learning successes and competences and to work on their youthpass certificates.
For an entire afternoon session, all participants discussed what the mission of Phiren Amenca means for the volunteers with Amaro Drom, how we can fight together stereotypes and antigypsyism and stand up for dialogue between Roma and non-Roma. Finally, the volunteers planed individual or common projects for now or after their volunteering time, such as a weekend seminar about Roma Holocaust or an interactive homepage for volunteers.
