Farkas Ramóna comes from a small rural settlement in Hungary. Moving to Budapest was not just a big change in her life, but the beginning of a path she’s been determined to follow despite many obstacles. Although she has already worked as an actress in various independent theatre productions, theatre has always meant more to her than performance alone, it’s a way to tell stories, start conversations, and give voice to those who are often unheard.
Ramóna plays all the roles in a powerful play first directed by Tamás Szegedi in 2018, which portrays the inner struggles and social challenges faced by young Roma people. The play is now mainly performed in schools across Hungary as part of educational and awareness-raising sessions. Ramóna performs every character, from the elderly grandparents to the teenage boy, and engages with the audience afterwards in open discussions. She is not only a performer in these settings but also a co-creator, someone who shares her own lived experience to spark reflection and connection.

Between December 2023 and November 2024, she participated in Phiren Amenca’s volunteering program in Budapest. During this period, she was actively involved in communication and event coordination, contributed to visual and written content for the organization’s campaigns and commemorations, and helped facilitate youth-focused meetings and trainings. In several rural outreach events, she also spoke about her own story, inspiring other young Roma to explore mobility programs and take part in international opportunities.
She took part in ESC info days, Roma remembrance events, community workshops, and often played an active role in the design and delivery of creative sessions and online content. For Ramóna, this volunteer experience was not a step away from theatre, but rather a new stage, a different space where she could use her voice, presence, and creativity to empower others and build bridges between communities.

For Ramóna, this year was not a break from theatre, it was simply a different form of it. Using new tools but the same dedication, she continued to represent Roma youth, build community, and create bridges between different worlds. As the program comes to an end, her goal is to keep growing on stage and remain actively involved in both cultural and community initiatives.
We wish her all the best on her journey!
