SEMINARS FOR YOUNG ROMA AND NON-ROMA ON THE ROMA HOLOCAUST AND RESISTANCE IN APRIL IN AUSCHWITZ, IN AUGUST IN BUCHENWALD AND IN OCTOBER IN YAD VASHEM, ISRAEL
Phiren Amenca and its partners are looking for committed participants to attend a series of seminars on the topic of Romani Resistance, Roma Holocaust and combating antigypsyism. The seminars have three modules:
1) SEMINAR ABOUT ROMANI RESISTANCE IN AUSCHWITZ: The seminar will take place in Auschwitz, Poland between the 11-16. April 2022, and involve 40 young Roma and non-Roma between the age of 18 and 30 from Europe. The aim of the seminar is to familiarize participants with the Roma Holocaust in the setting of Auschwitz and to introduce them the basics of human rights and non-formal education and their relevance in Holocaust education, remembrance and combating discrimination, intolerance and antigypsyism. The program will include a visit to the Auschwitz Museum and the former concentration camp, and participants will learn specifically about the importance of the May 16 – Romani Resistance Day in this setting.
2) SEMINAR ABOUT THE ROMA HOLOCAUST IN BUCHENWALD: In frame of this seminar 40 young Roma and non-Roma people between the age of 18 and 30, preferably those who attended the first seminar, will come together in Buchenwald, Germany between July 31 and 5 August 2022, to continue their learning process. The aim is to allow them to learn about the former concentration camp in Buchenwald, primarily through testimonies of survivors. The activity also sets out to continue further developing their skills in human rights education, non-formal education, and equip them with knowledge and practical tools to combat antigypsyism and existing negative narratives about the Roma.
3) SEMINAR ABOUT HOLOCAUST EDUCATION IN THE YAD VASHEM MEMORIAL COMPLEX: This closing seminar aims to offer an opportunity for 40 participants who have been participating at the previous activities to learn about the educational work of the Yad Vashem Memorial Complex between October 10-15. 2022 in Jerusalem, Israel. They will also reflect on their overall learning throughout the modules that will enable them to prepare using their newly gained skills in their future work as educators.
WHO CAN APPLY:
Roma and non-Roma youth leaders, youth workers, multipliers, educators, trainers, volunteers and activists age between 18-30 who are committed to work on local, national or international level on issues of remembrance, Holocaust and human rights education.
Roma and non-Roma young people who are motivated to follow up on the seminars and who are committed to be present at each of the 3 seminars.
Roma and non-Roma young people from Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and all other Council of Europe member states.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
If you fit into the participants’ profile, you may submit an application until March 10 at midnight Central European Time. The preparatory team will select up the participants on the basis of the profile outlined above, ensuring also a balance between genders, geographical regions, different types of experiences and organizations. Within few days, by March 15, we will inform the candidates whether their application has been accepted or rejected.
COSTS OF THE SEMINARS
All costs are covered and there are no participation fee to attend the seminars. However, to secure your participation, you will be required to proof a vaccination certificate or in case you are not vaccinated, you will be charged for any PCR testing.
