“…what I learned from an early age was to care about my community and support it in different ways.”- Aracely

My name is Aracely Hooker Anderson, and I am from Nicaragua.

I obtained a degree in Social Work at UNAN-Leon, during my years of study I participated in different courses and workshops through which I was able to further strengthen and enrich my knowledge, carry out my professional practices in Aldeas Infantile SOS with headquarters in León, Nicaragua. I was a volunteer at Fundación Marijn and then I worked for 3 years in different projects that were carried out by this organization, which had children, adolescents, and families as their target population.

I come from a multicultural population and the existing diversity has its advantages but also its negative side creating more complexity and confusion. I grew up in a family with all of this, but what I learned from an early age was to care about my community and support it in different ways from home, school, church… trying to give my best, learn from the each one’s experience and to share my own knowledge.

I have really enjoyed my work with children, adolescents and families and I am sure that in one way or another I have contributed with the necessary tools for the personal and family change of the people with whom I have shared at work and outside of work and that it makes me happy and fills me with satisfaction and makes me want to keep doing it. I like to get to know other cultures and it seemed to me that this was the opportunity, I hope to be able to learn and share my knowledge.

In addition to the work experience, I know that Italy has a lot to offer me personally to one of my passions which is cooking, I also like to write, and this trip and experience will give me the opportunity to write as much as I want. I arrived in Italy on January 21, there are many new things for me, I am enjoying them, and I hope in the coming months to continue enjoying the diversity and above all to learn from everything that comes along, the good and the bad.
